Introduced in Halo: Combat Evolved in 2001, the Energy Sword is a terrifying weapon used in close-quarters combat by Elites. Over the years, it has become a staple of the series as a power weapon available around various maps. While these blades were symbols of advanced fighting skill among members of the Sangheili, several Spartans recently brandished the weapons in a much more inelegant way.

In a post on Reddit, a user known as TacomaSauce99 shared a video of an unfortunate yet hilarious encounter they had in Halo Infinite. The incident took place on the Aquarius map during a game of Super Fiesta. In the clip, the Reddit user was seen eliminating an opponent with a Gravity Hammer. However, the player then decided to switch to an Energy Sword, a more elegant weapon. Unfortunately, this would soon be a decision they would regret.

Once grabbing the Energy Sword, they ran up a stairway near the back of the map. Reaching the top, they were greeted by an enemy Spartan, brandishing a blade as well. What happened next could best be described as complete chaos as both Spartans tried to defeat each other in the close-range duel. While occasionally one player would parry an attack, often they would simply miss. After a long and clumsy skirmish that even involved using the Grapple Shot and Repulsor, the inglorious fight ended after the duelists threw frag grenades at each other. The resulting explosions killed them both, ending the conflict in a draw.

This awkward sword fight between Spartans caught the attention of numerous members of the Halo Infinite community on Reddit. With over 7,600 upvotes in only a day, many were surprised by how bad the duel between the players was. “I took more damage watching this than y’all did fighting each other,” one person joked. In addition, some commented that the battle made them feel better about their own skills with the weapon. However, others claimed that the clumsy fight was due to poor collision detection and possibly desync issues.

This is just one of the many incredible highlights recorded by players in Halo Infinite. Besides this sword fight, another fan recently posted a clip of them killing an entire team with a rocket launcher in Attrition. As gamers continue to play multiplayer matches, it will be interesting to see what other videos are shared with the Halo Infinite community.

Halo Infinite is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
