While Dragon Quest Treasures has an excellent campaign, the game also features stacks of exciting side quests that provide the opportunity for narrative exposition, exploration of the map, and really getting a feel for the title’s mechanics. Out of all the side quests from Dragon Quest Treasures, these really showcase some of the game’s greatest strengths.
10 Training Camp: The Basics
Located at the Paternoggin, players can unlock the Training Camp: the Basics side quest by talking to Captain Levanter. The Captain is bored and looking for some form of entertainment, and basically offers to help train the player in order to give himself something to do.
One of the game’s many adventure quests, Training Camp: the Basics gives players the opportunity to learn how to use the catapult, Fortes, issue orders to their monster, and more. Despite essentially functioning as a tutorial, this side quest is still a surprising amount of fun.
9 Princess Anemone’s Request
Players can unlock this side quest by travelling to the Hinterquarters and speaking with Princess Anemone, one of Dragon Quest Treasure’s most iconic female characters. The Princess is actually fairly difficult to reach, which makes starting the quest all the more rewarding. Players can get to the Princess by using a monster that can use Forte to either fly or access the tunnel leading to where she’s waiting.
Alternatively, players can reach the Princess by jumping onto and then over the icicle near where she’s standing. She’ll actually assign the player with multiple quests as part of her dialogue when speaking to her in the Hinterlands. The quest itself involves finding epic stone monuments dotted around the landscape of Draconia and is epic, to say the least.
8 Miss Cecily’s Suggestions: Part 2
While it might not sound that exciting on the surface, the Miss Cecily’s Suggestions: Part 2 side quest allows players to increase the capacity of the dormitory, which is incredibly helpful as the game progresses.
Players can unlock this side quest in Eggshell Island. Miss Cecily essentially sends the player on a fairly lengthy fetch quest to gather the materials needed to build a dormitory. Successfully building the dorm even involves recruiting a Glacial Golemn for assistance, and, once completed, gives the player a permanent boost to the number of monsters they can have in their dormitory at any one time.
7 Burst Of Enthusiasm
Although some may find it someone frustrating, the Burst Of Enthusiasm side quest can be great fun and is incredibly satisfying to complete. Players can unlock the side quest by talking to Shady and Shambles in the Wingswept Moors, where the characters will set the challenge to pop 10 of their ballons, which are scattered around Draconia.
Completing this side quest means that the player will be rewarded with two valuable items - Shady’s Shadow and the Chimaera Wing - as well as having the glory of completing one of the most challenging and grindy side quests in Dragon Quest Treasures.
6 Burnt To A Cinder
Easily one of the best Railway Quests in Dragon Quest Treasures, Burnt to a Cinder is located in Eggshell Island. Players can unlock this side quest by talking to Mr Euston, who asks for help in getting all of the railway stations located on the island back into working order.
Players then need to head all the way to Cold Shoulder Central Station in Cinderback Ridge, where Mr Banks will inform them of which stations need to be restored. This side quest is a great way to see more of the map and is so satisfying to complete.
5 The Canteen Queen
Another of the gang quests assigned by Miss Cecily, the Canteen Queen side quest, when completed, results in the character opening a canteen at the base.
To complete the side quest successfully, players will need to successfully recruit a Hat Hamwitch and return it to Miss Cecily. Doing so requires travelling all the way to the north of Swoopswamp Station - players may want to use Better Buddy Bullet when attempting to recruit the Hat Hamwitch in order to give themselves a better chance of managing to recruit the monster. Returning to Miss Cecily with the Hat Hamwitch completes the quest.
4 Inflated Egos
Inflated Egos is another awesome side quest that players can unlock through an encounter with Shady and Shambles at the Wingswept Moors. While short and very simple to complete, Inflated Egos serves as a nice piece of exposition for players to learn more about Dragon Quest Treasure’s hilarious Shady and Shambles, which are classic JRPG-style minor characters.
Players can trigger the quest starting by popping the balloon near Shady and Shambles at Swoopswamp Station - doing so will anger them and they’ll confront the player. A cutscene will play and, once it’s finished, the Inflated Egos side quest will be completed. Easy, right?
3 Stranded At The Station
Located in the wilds of the Maneland, Stranded at the Station lets players help out a Sylphanian treasure hunter named Gayle who wants to explore and go treasure hunting further afield.
Talking to Gayle will trigger the quest - players will actually need to complete another quest, On the Mend: Sweetshade Glade, to restore the train station that Gayle needs to be working in order to go treasure hunting. Once players complete On the Mend: Sweetshade Glade, Stranded at the Station will also be completed automatically. Players can then talk to Gayle for their reward.
2 Wingswept And Interesting
Another one of the favorite railway quests in Dragon Quest Treasures, Wingswept and Interesting tasks players with restoring all of the train stations in the Wingswept Moors to working order.
Players can obtain this side quest from Mr Euston on Eggshell Island. While it’s certainly one of the more time-consuming and involved side quests in the game, putting in the effort to finish Wingswept and Interesting is easily worth it for the rewards alone. Upon completing the quest, players receive a Chunk of Sanguinite, Hair-Raising Wraith Risotto Recipe, and Chimaera Wing.
1 Might And Mane
Another awesome railway quest, Might and Mane requires that players restore the train stations of the Maneland to proper working order.
This side quest is an excellent way to explore Maneland, which is easily one of Draconia’s most fascinating areas. And, like the other railway quests in Dragon Quest Treasures, completing Might and Mane makes players’ lives way easier by enabling railway travel all across the Maneland. While it might seem like quite the undertaking, players should take the plunge and tackle the railway quests in the game - they won’t soon regret it!
