Crystal Dynamics’ Head of Studio Scot Amos, while speaking with journalists, explained that they don’t view the current selection of playable characters - Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk and Black Widow - as just classes or roles that can be simply replicated for future characters.

Amos added as to why the developers want to make these new characters distinct and not share move-sets with other characters:

It’s currently unknown as to which characters will be joining Avengers post-launch, with the exception of Hank Pym, who in the comics went under the names Ant-Man and Yellowjacket. We know very little about how he’ll play, though, and the brief footage of him showed him wielding a shrinking ray of some kind, as opposed to shrinking himself down to fight villains. It’s also theorized that Kamala Khan AKA Ms. Marvel will be made playable as she is shown in the prologue being affected by the Terrigen mist, which is what gave her superpowers in the comics.

Recently, alternate costumes were also confirmed for the game, including a Secret Empire outfit for Captain America and a suit for Hulk, though a couple others were leaked online.

Marvel’s Avengers will be released on May 15th 2020 for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia.
